High wind warnings still in effect for St. Lawrence County; temperatures rising into 40s

A hazardous weather outlook remains in effect for St. Lawrence County as high winds continue to hit much of Northern New York, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Although air temperatures have warmed into the mid 30s to near 40, ground temperatures remain below freezing from the recent Arctic air mass of the past couple of days, NWS says. This means some roads and sidewalks are icy this morning, especially back roads and untreated surfaces.

Extra care when venturing out this morning is urged when driving and walking.

Surface conditions should gradually improve throughout the mid to late morning hours as air temperatures continue to climb into the 40s and ground temperatures warm as well, the service says.

A wind advisory remains in effect for St. Lawrence County through 11 a.m. with southwest winds of 18 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 48 mph.

The forecast calls for a high near 43 today with cloudy skies early before becoming partly sunny in the afternoon.

Tonight will see a 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 3 a.m. with a low around 38 degrees, the service says
