HEUVELTON -- Heuvelton Central School has named Nicole Charleson as the new elementary principal.
She will begin July 1.
Charleson is an Instructional Coach and Regional Teacher Leader for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.
For the past two years she has worked with all 18 districts to help administrative teams and teachers with topics ranging from curriculum development to student engagement, to instructional best practices.
Charleson has over a decade of classroom teaching experience.
She began her teaching career in Lincoln County Schools, near Charlotte, NC. After two years teaching in the South, she returned to the North Country, first accepting a position at Norwood-Norfolk Elementary School and later teaching at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in Potsdam, from 2008 to 2014.
Charleson received a B.S. in Childhood Education and a B.S. in Special Education from St. John Fisher College and a M.S. in K-5 Reading and Mathematics from Walden University.
Charleson fills the void left by current HCS Elementary Principal, Shannon Jordan’s decision to become the 7-12 Principal in the Heuvelton District.
That vacancy became available when the Heuvelton CSD Board of Education appointed Jesse Coburn as Superintendent to replace Susan Todd, who will be retiring at the end of this school year after serving in the district for twelve years.
Todd stated that she is extremely pleased with the changes to administration that have been put in place for the new school year and has full confidence that the district is being left in very good hands.
