HEUVELTON -- Heuvelton Central School has hired a new 7-12 grade principal and lost its elementary principal.

Jesse Coburn was appointed to the position unanimously at a recent HCS Board of Education meeting.

Coburn formerly taught Forensic Science at Heuvelton Central School from 2004 to 2007 and spent the past five years serving as principal at J.W. Leary Junior High School in Massena.

Prior to his appointment as Massena's junior high principal, Coburn was the assistant principal at Massena High School.

Heuvelton Central School Superintendent Susan Todd said Coburn has a strong background in administration as well as teaching.

"We are delighted to have him on board," she said.

As Heuvelton welcomes a new 7-12 grade principal it will also say farewell to elementary principal, Cynthia Belleau.

Belleau has been hired by the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES as Coordinator of District Initiatives & Curriculum.

“Mrs. Belleau’s expertise in curriculum and data analysis made her a perfect candidate for this position and our BOCES region is very fortunate to have someone of her caliber helping in these areas during this challenge time with many transitions in the field of education,” Todd said. “Mrs. Belleau will be great missed by students, staff, parents and Board of Education members but we all wish her the very best.”

Interim 7-12 Principal Randy A. Johnson, who will be replaced by Coburn, will take over as the interim elementary principal until the position is filled.

A “Meet & Greet” for the new principals will be held Dec. 11. Coburn and Johnson will be available to meet parents from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. in the cafeteria that evening.
