OSWEGATCHIE – A Heuvelton man was jailed without bail Saturday after attacking his girlfriend, crashing her vehicle and assaulting hospital staff and law enforcement, according to state police.

Troopers say they responded to a reported domestic dispute around 9:15 p.m. to 37 Lisbon St., Heuvelton, and discovered that Devin B. Johnson, 29, had slapped his girlfriend in the face, grabbed her by the mouth and slammed her head into a window during an argument.

Johnson reportedly fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Durango, before police arrived on the scene.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., state police received a report of a vehicle that crashed into a National Grid utility pole. Johnson allegedly was east on State Highway 37 near the Perry Road when he crossed the center line and exited the north shoulder of the road where he crashed.

He was transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, for treatment of minor injuries to his wrists and back.

While troopers were at the hospital to obtain a blood sample, Johnson became combative. He allegedly pulled out his intravenous tubes and attempted to leave the hospital.

He assaulted a hospital employee by kicking him in the throat and then struck a trooper in the face with his knee, police said.

He was eventually subdued and placed in hospital restraints, officers said.

Johnson was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny, second-degree assault, obstructing a governmental administration, resisting arrest, driving while ability impaired: drugs and second-degree harassment, trooper said.

He was also cited for no seatbelt, failure to maintain lane and failure to keep right, police said.

Johnson was reportedly arraigned in Morristown Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in Canton on no bail.

He is to appear June 4 at 5 p.m. in court to answer the charges, police said.

There may be additional charges pending the results of the blood test, police said.
