HEUVELTON -- Volunteers from the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency aid to a family of four today after a fire that occurred Thursday night on Lisbon Street.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities such as shelter, food and clothing to one adult and three children, ages 10, 14 and 16.

“Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits containing personal care items for each individual. In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery,” a red Cross news release said.

The statement did not identify the family or give their specific address, or give details about the fire.

Since the start of 2016, the Red Cross has responded to more than 300 home fires and other disasters in the 24-county Eastern New York Region. In the last 6 months, more than 1,100 people have received emergency assistance, care and comfort from local Red Cross volunteers.

All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge and made possible by the generosity of the public. To donate to Red Cross Disaster Relief and help people affected by disasters big and small, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
