Heuvelton Central School presents many awards and scholarships to grads

HEUVELTON -- Heuvelton Central School doled out many awards and scholarships to members of the class of 2014.

The recipient of the Heuvelton United Methodist Women Award is Joseph McDonnell. The $25 grant goes to a student demonstrating Christian service and leadership.

The recipients of the DePeyster Masonic Lodge #573 award are Carl Bennett, Lucas Brown and Joseph McDonnell. This award is for $25 each.

The recipient of the All Star Music Award is Madison Simmons. This award of $25 is given to a student who participated in all five performing groups at Heuvelton.

The recipient of the Michelle (Shorty) Howes Award is Alexis Weidner. The $25 award established by the Class of l984 and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Howes and family is given to an student who worked hard to succeed.

The recipients of the Patricia Dempsey Memorial award are Dallas Bastien and Macy Richardson. $25 each goes to a deserving boy and girl who attends classes at Northwest Tech.

The recipient of the $25 William Jenkinson Award is Reilly Pierce. The grant goes to the senior who has demonstrated general excellence in academic subjects.

The recipients of Perfect Attendance Awards are Scarlett Cameron, Logan Tallman and Rachel Thornhill, receiving $25 each for perfect attendance 2 out of 4 years of high school. Dylan Liscum received $75 for perfect attendance all 4 years of high school.

The recipients of the St. Lawrence Chapter #60, Order of the Eastern Star award are Bethany Luck and Marie McDonnell. $25 each is given to senior girl demonstrating benevolence and good citizenship.

The recipient of the $25 HCS Choral Award is Reilly Pierce. It is presented in recognition of the enthusiasm, dedication and musical achievement in vocal music.

The recipient of the $50 J. Albert DeLair Memorial Award is Rachel Hand.

The recipients of the Community Bank Award are Ryan Fifield, Cassandra Layng, Dylan Liscum and Alexis Weidner. This award is $50 each to students planning to continue their education.

The recipient of the $50 Gerald Phillippe/Mary Monnett award is Madelyn St. Pierre. Mary Monnett, a 1967 graduate of HCS and recipient of the 1979 Gerald L. Phillippe Award for Distinguished Public Service, picked Heuvelton Central to receive a grant from the General Electric Foundation.

The recipient of the $50 David Bullock award is Ashlyn Foster. Given in memory of David Bullock by his family, it is presented to a senior who exhibits an enthusiasm for life.

The recipients of the French Club award are Cassandra Layng and Katherine Lord. A $50 award each is given by the French Club towards educational expenses to seniors who have successfully taken French throughout their high school careers.

The recipients of the $50 Heuvelton Free Library award are Katherine Lord and Alexis Michael.

The recipients of the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department Award are Katelyn Bates, Derek Fenton, Macy Richardson and Shelby Williams. $50.00 each was given to deserving seniors for volunteerism and community spirit.

The recipients of the $50 Joey Friot award are Joseph McDonnell and Andrew McGaw.

The recipient of a $50 Heuvelton Central School Art Award is Katherine Lord. Given by Ashley Putney and the HCS Art Club, it recognizes students continuing art education.

The recipient of the Lou Ann Smithers Snyder award is Shelby Williams. An award of $50 is given in memory of Lou Anne Smithers Snyder by Helen Smithers and Family and is presented to a senior pursuing education in health care.

The recipients of the Ralph and Gladys McMartin award are Aidan Scagel and Logan Tallman. A plaque award in honor of the late Ralph and Gladys McMartin tgoes o a senior boy girl judged most consistent in athletics for four years of high school. An award of $50 each given by Dr. and Mrs. Curt D. Ross.

The recipient of the $50 Northwest Technical Center Achievement award is Monica Arquette. It goes to students who have excelled in their career and technical education program.

The recipient of the $50 Ogdensburg Pro Musica Choral Award is Reilly Pierce. It is to promote and reward participation in chorus and is given to a senior who has shown excellence in vocal music.

The recipient of the $50 Pepsi-Cola Fine Arts Award is Rachel Hand. It is given to a senior who has excelled in drama, public speaking, vocal music, instrumental music or art appreciation.

The recipient of the $50 Brian Kelly memorial award is Madison Simmons. It goes to a student showing interest in drama. This award is given by Greg and Lillian LaRose and family.

The recipients of the Heuvelton AmVets Ladies Auxiliary Award are Monica Arquette, Madelyn St. Pierre and Johanna Carmany. An award of $50, $50 and $100, respectively, are presented to seniors exhibited noteworthy community awareness.

The recipient of the $50 Robert “Bucky” Fenton citizenship award is Ryan Fifield. It is presented to a graduating senior who demonstrates a strong community commitment, volunteerism, loyalty and pride in his or her work.

Carl Bennett and Reilly Pierce each received a $75 Royal-J-Acres award. This award goes to students whose family is involved in the agriculture industry.

The recipient of the $100 James Ray Peacock award is Dallas Bastien. It goes to a student in recognition of achievements in vocational education.

The recipient of the $100 Daniel Lake award is Andrew McGaw. It goes to a graduate who brightens who shows keen sense of humor, good character and personality. The winner was selected by the class of 2014.

The recipients of the United Steel Workers Local 4-503 Achievement Award are Lucas Brown and Zachary Montroy. They were granted $100 each.

The recipients of the Allen Gutterson Memorial award are Jack Palmer and Rachel Thornhill. $100 each was given by Kathy (Gutterson) Lynch and daughters, Trisha and Alisha, to a male and female athlete attending college.

The Arthur V. Brown Achievement Award is presented to Bethany Luck. This award of $l00.00 is given by Lee and Yvonne Lewandowski, to a High School Senior who has shown the greatest improvement in his or her attitude towards students and relationships to others.

The recipient of the $100 Dale Simms award is Andrew McGaw. It is given in memory of Dale Simms by Lee and Yvonne Lewandowski for a senior who has shown the most social growth in four years.

The recipient of the $100 HCS Heuveltonian Yearbook Award is Alexis Weidner.

The recipients of the $100 Heuvelton Fire Department Auxiliary are Katelyn Bates and Derek Fenton. It goes to a student who has shown community involvement and is continuing their education.

The recipient of the $100 Ila Livingston Creative Writing award is Alexis Michael. It goes to a student who demonstrated an interest in and an aptitude for creative writing in both Public Speaking and English 12 classes.

The recipient of the $100 Ila Livingston award is Zachary Montroy. It goes to a student who has shown the most improvement in English throughout high school.

The recipients of the Nineteenth Annual Thomas G. White Memorial Scholarship for $100 each are Jack Palmer and Alexis Weidner. It goes to a member of the graduating class who plans to attend college or military service. Someone who has a happy, positive outlook and lives life to the fullest. Someone who displays good citizenship and a willingness to help others in a sincere and positive manner.

The recipient of the $100 Faye Baxter Memorial Scholarship Award is Madelyn St. Pierre. It is presented by the CSEA St. Lawrence Educational Local 873 Union.

The recipient of the $100 Picquet Neighborhood Scholarship is Alexis Michael. It goes to a student who has been in Girl Scouts for at least one “Senior” level, two “Ambassador” levels and has completed five community projects.

The recipient of the $100 Wilbert and Grace Parish award is Madison Simmons. It goes to a deserving senior who has shown outstanding musical ability and achievement. This award is in memory of Wilbert and Grace Parish, given by their children and grandchildren.

The recipients of the Heuvelton PTA “Who I am Makes a Difference” awards are Jared Ladouceur and Alexis Michael. This award of $100.00 each is given to students who demonstrate respect, compassion, helpfulness and who put others' needs before their own.

The recipients of the St. Raphael’s Altar Rosary Scholarships are Katherine Lord, Alexis Michael, Reilly Pierce and Aidan Scagel. This award of $100.00 each is presented to seniors who have an active involvement in St. Raphael’s Parish and the community and have shown outstanding character and service.

The recipient of the $100 Heuvelton Alumni Association award is Dylan Liscum.

The recipient of the $100 Heuvelton Alumni Association Sportsman award is given to Rachel Thornhill. It is given in memory of Stephanie Putney.

A $100 Heuvelton Alumni Association Sportsman award went to Jack Palmer.

The recipients of the Heuvelton Alumni Association awards are Monica Arquette, Scarlett Cameron and Ryan Fifield. This award is for $100 each acknowledges their hard work and interest in medicine.

The recipient of the $100 Heuvelton Alumni Association Art award is Katherine Lord.

The recipient of the $100 Heuvelton Alumni Association Music awards is Derek Fenton. It is presented in memory of Irene Cross Thornhill Wallace Murdock and recognizes his enthusiasm towards music.

The recipient of the $115 Jessie Friot Memorial Award is Alexis Weidner. It goes to students who plan to continue their education. Consideration is given to ability, attitude and achievement.

Recipients of $150 Paul A. Conroy Jr., Amvets post 1997 Awards are Derek Fenton and Alexis Michael.

The recipients of $150 Boy Scouts/Aaron Lasher Memorial awards are James Hanna and Aidan Scagel. It goes to graduating high school students who have maintained active participation in Boy Scout Troop 9.

The recipients of $150 Heuvelton Lions Club awards are Monica Arquette, Andrew McGaw and Alexis Michael. It is presented to a student who has shown community involvement and is continuing their education.

The recipients of $200 Monsignor Robert Giroux, Knights of Columbus Council 12958, St. Raphael's Parish, Heuvelton Scholarships are Katherine Lord and Aidan Scagel.

The recipient of the $200 Ogdensburg Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #814 is Alexis Weidner.

The $250 Heuvelton Amvets Post 1997 scholarship in memory of Brian P. Kelly went to Madelyn St. Pierre. The recipient of this award, male or female, must exhibit the traits that made Kelly special to those who knew him. These traits include friendliness, helpfulness, determination, cooperation, enthusiasm and an overall optimistic outlook.

The recipient of the $250 Donald Livingston award is Katelyn Bates. It goes to a graduating senior who has demonstrated purpose and perseverance and either enrolled in a post-graduate program, joining the military or entering the work force.

The recipients of $250 Jerrine Hutchinson awards are Zachary Montroy and Logan Tallman.

The recipient of the $250 Jessie Larche scholarship award is Reneé Breault. It goes to a senior who has achieved academic excellence, has been a good citizen, has been kind and compassionate to others, and plans to continue their studies.

The recipient of the $260 McCadam award is Carl Bennett. It is given by the late Stanley K. McCadam and Helen Q. McCadam. The grant is taken from interest accrued on a gift to the school from the McCadam's. This fund is self-perpetuating and the school is allowed to use only the interest on the principal.

The recipient of the $350 Cindy Brady Memorial Scholarship is Alexis Michael. It is given by the Monsignor Robert Giroux, Knights of Columbus Council 12958, St. Raphael's Parish of Heuvelton.

The recipient of the $350 William “Bill” Ames Memorial Scholarship is Johanna Carmany. It is given by the Monsignor Robert Giroux, Knights of Columbus Council 12958, St. Raphael's Parish.

The recipient of the $500 Heuvelton Teachers Association Scholarship is Alexis Sawyer. It is given to a student planning a career in education.

The recipient of the $500 Ron C. Weir Memorial Scholarship award is Reilly Pierce. It is given by his family and the Monsignor Robert Giroux, Knights of Columbus Council 12958, St. Raphael's Parish to a student pursuing a career in the field of science, math or engineering.

The recipient of the $500 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Seaway Lodge #41 is Monica Arquette. It goes to a student continuing their education, who has held an average of 90 or above throughout high school while participating in extracurricular activities, and has volunteered in their community.

The recipients of the $600 NYS Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent award is Ryan Fifield. It is given for scholastic achievement, school activities, community service, letters of recommendations and a 300-word essay.

A special award of the Heuvelton Alumni Association of $1000 is presented to Andrew McGaw. This award is made possible by Terry Gilbert, class of 1965.

The recipient of the Thompson-Weatherup Family Charitable Foundation award of $1,000 is Aidan Scagel. The family supports Heuvelton Central School in memory of Holland relatives, including retired HCS teacher Leta Holland Rock, and Wallace (Bud) Rock, class of 1942. The scholarship goes to a graduating senior pursuing higher education in a field related to elementary (early childhood) education or healthcare or is attending a college in St. Lawrence County or nearby in the region.

The recipient of the $1,220 SUNY Canton/Heuvelton Alumni Scholarship award is Logan Tallman. It goes to a Heuvelton graduate accepted at SUNY Canton. It is provided by the Canton College Foundation through Mr. and Mrs. David McCadam and other supporters.

The recipient of the $1,250 Joseph and Helen C. Kring Memorial Award is Scarlett Cameron. It is givey by the Krings' daughter, Elsie Bull.

Johanna Carmany received the William Harrington Award. The plaque award is given to the student showing the most interest and improvement in science throughout high school.

Madelyn St. Pierre and Aidan Scagel received of the Chad Gibbons Award. The plaque award is given by received of the Robert Bray Award for Most Valuable Senior Male Athlete.

Alexis Michael received the John Duvall Senior Band Plaque Award. It goes to the senior band member who has shown most musical achievement throughout high school.
