HEUVELTON-- The New York State PTA has awarded the Heuvelton Central School Parent-Teacher Association with a 2017 Alumni/Community membership award this month.
The award recognizes HCS PTA for achieving a high level of membership. According to the NYS PTA, “The members in your community have embraced and supported students and teachers within your PTA, which is a wonderful achievement.”
The HCS PTA currently has around 74 members, comprising district staff, parents, community members, and students. The group has lead several initiatives so far this school year, including the annual Reading with Santa event, spirit-wear sales, a Labor Day Parade spirit table, concessions for summer youth programs and fall sports competitions, a children’s painting event, a family game night and family movie night, an open house welcome table, athletic team send-off treats, teacher appreciation efforts, and promotion of the Who I Am Makes A Difference awards.
The PTA is open to all HCS community members, and new members are welcome.
According to PTA President René Thatcher, “Our main goal is to enhance the student experience by fundraising for those little extras. We try to bring the community together through our events. It is a small community with so much pride.”
