CANTON – A Hermon man was charged with selling alcohol to a minor after “an underage volunteer” assisted state police by attempting to buy alcohol at various locations.

On Tuesday, the New York State Police conducted an underage drinking initiative in St. Lawrence County, which resulted in the arrest of one individual for prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21 at the Canton Nice N Easy.

Ellwood W. Fadden Jr., 24, was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child in the first-degree and prohibited sale of alcohol to a person under 21.

Twenty establishments and retail stores were checked throughout the county. As part of the investigation, an “underage volunteer” was sent into each business in an attempt to have the clerk or bartender sell or serve the minor alcohol.

This initiative was completed with the cooperation of the Village of Potsdam Police Department, the Village of Canton Police Department, and the Village of Gouverneur Police Department.
