The National Weather Service is warning of another hot day is forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley today after a record-setting day yesterday.

An ozone alert has been posted for most of the state, including the area just east of Lake Ontario.

The heat wave in the North Country and around the Northeast produced a record high temperature in Massena of 92 degrees at the 4 p.m. observation at Richards Field, Massena's airport. That broke the previous record high of 91 degrees set in 1953.

The average high for the date is 77 degrees. The record low was 40 in 1967.

It will have to get a bit hotter today to break the record high for June 21 at Massena, 95 degrees during the same heat wave in 1953.

A cold front moving through the region today will bring relief tomorrow and the chance of some thunderstorms tonight and early tomorrow. The low tonight is expected to be in the low to mid 60s, and the high tomorrow will be in the low to mid 80 with clearing skies.

Friday night, the is a slight chance of rain or thunderstorms with a low in the mid 50s.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny, with a 30 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms with highs in the mid 70s.
