Hearing on changes to St. Lawrence County Agricultural Districts 1 and 2 set for April 19
Thursday, April 12, 2018 - 9:20 am

CANTON -- St. Lawrence County has scheduled a public hearing to give the public the opportunity to comment on the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board’s recommended additions to Agricultural Districts 1 and 2.

The hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the County Planning Office, located on the 2nd floor of the Public Safety Complex.

This spring, the County received requests to add 11 parcels to Ag Districts 1 and 2 that total 417 acres. These parcels are located in the towns of Brasher, Dekalb, Hopkinton, Louisville, Norfolk, Pierrepont, Pitcairn and Potsdam.

When examining each requested addition, the County’s Ag and Farmland Protection Board reviewed a parcel’s existing use; whether local regulations allow agricultural uses at the requested location; whether the land receives an agricultural valuation; and if the land contains prime soils.

Lands that are recommended for inclusion have either satisfied, or are exempt from the criteria. All but one parcel satisfied these criteria, and the Ag and Farmland Protection Board has recommended to the County Board of Legislators to accept 11 parcels totaling 417 acres to Ag Districts 1 and 2.

Maps depicting the requested additions are available in the County Planning Office, and in the municipal building of each town that is affected by the recommended addition. Digital copies of these maps can also be obtained by emailing [email protected].

Those who cannot attend the public hearing can email written comments no later than April 19 to [email protected].
