The amount of money available for the regular HEAP program benefit is about the same as last year, with a maximum of $625 for oil, kerosene and propane, and $400 for natural gas and electricity for heat, according the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.
Money for heating-related emergencies, such as running out of fuel or an electric power disconnect, is at a flat rate of $140 this year.
The amount of an emergency benefit is based on income, household size, and available resources, all of which have to be checked.
The number to apply for heating help is 379-2303.
