Hazardous winter weather warnings posted for tonight, tomorrow in St. Lawrence County

Posted

A winter weather advisory is posted for the North Country, and will be in effect tonight through midnight Wednesday night.

The good news is that the nasty weather should clear out in time for Thanksgiving Day.

The National Weather Service says to expect snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow. They predict a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Accumulations could reach 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet, with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain, all between late tonight and late tomorrow night.

Heavy wet snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain at times may cause isolated power outages along with hazardous road conditions on Wednesday, the federal forecasters warn. Visibilities could be reduced to as little as a quarter-mile at times.

Winds will be from the northeast at 10 to 20 mph with some gusts. Temperatures will fall from the upper 30s under sunny skies into the upper 20s with clouds and precipitation tonight, then warming to near 40 on Wednesday.

The winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties, and that travelers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and to use caution while driving.

Skies will begin to clear Wednesday night, with temperatures dipping to the lower 20s.

Thursday, sunny skies will return with highs expected in the mid-40s. Moderate southwest winds might gust to as high as 25 mph.

Clear to mostly clear skies will be with us through Saturday, with lows Thursday and Friday nights around 30. Daytime highs Friday and Saturday will be around 50.

Saturday night some clouds will move in with lows in the mid-30s.

Sunday, sunny skies are expected to prevail with highs again around 50.

Sunday night: cloudy, low around 34. Monday, 30 percent chance of showers, high near 50.
