Hazardous weather: rain could be heavy in St. Lawrence Valley

The National Weather Service is warning that rain all across the St. Lawrence Valley and into the Adirondacks today could be heavy at times.

Rainfall totals by late tonight are expected to range from three-quarters of an inch to an inch and a half.

The rain is expected to gradually taper off tonight, but as a low pressure area moves across the North Country Saturday into Sunday, more showers are expected. Despite the clouds and rain, above normal temperatures will prevail.

Highs today will be about 60. Temperatures will not fall much tonight with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s.

Saturday is expected to start out dry, but with an upper-level low moving into the North Country Saturday afternoon, more rain is expected.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and the northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: Rain. High near 61. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tonight: Rain likely, mainly before midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 51. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 61. Light south wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: Showers likely, mainly between 1pm and 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 58. West wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 59.

Tuesday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
