Hazardous Weather Outlook warns of possibly heavy downpours in North Country today

A good chance of heavy downpours is predicted for St. Lawrence County today, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook bulletin from the National Weather Service.

A humid air mass will remain in place across the North Country today and tonight, while, higher in the atmosphere, a strong upper level low will shift eastward from the Great Lakes today, and as it approaches, showers and thunderstorms will spread across the North Country today and into tonight.

The high temperature today is expected to be about 78 degrees, and lows tonight will be in the upper 50s. Winds today and tonight are expected to be light, except in thunderstorms.

The sun is predicted to emerge tomorrow, with a high of 72.

Wednesday night, a cold front will cross the North Country, bringing partly cloudy skies and lows around 50.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A chance of showers, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. High near 78. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 10 to 16 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. West wind 6 to 13 mph.

• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Friday: Sunny, with a high near 76. West wind 6 to 8 mph.

• Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

• Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. South wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Light south wind.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight.

• Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind around 5 mph.
