Hazardous weather outlook in North Country for thunderstorms and rain

A hazardous weather outlook has been posted for St. Lawrence County today, with the National Weather Service warning of thunderstorms and showers passing through the region.

The rain will spread west to east along a cold front that’s moving through the North Country.

That will be followed by cooler and drier weather tonight and tomorrow.

The high temperature today will reach into the lower 70s, and tonight falls to about 45 as the clouds move out.

Clear skies are then expected through Tuesday with cool temperatures.

A chance for rain will return later in the week when an area of low pressure moves into the Northeast.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 72. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 45. Light west wind.

• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 68. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 40. Calm wind.

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 72. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon.

• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 55. South wind 3 to 5 mph.

• Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Light southeast wind.

• Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Thursday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 68. West wind around 9 mph.
