Hazardous weather outlook in effect for northern St. Lawrence County; low visibility likely at times

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northern St. Lawrence County.

Snow showers and squalls are expected this afternoon, with potentially heavy bursts of snowfall. Up to two inches may fall within a short period of time, the service warns. Near zero visibility conditions are possible.

Calmer weather will prevail this weekend, but below normal temperatures are expected to continue through next week, the service said.

Snow will return Monday night, followed by a mixture of rain and snow Tuesday, transitioning back to snow Wednesday, according to the service’s forecast.

• This afternoon: Occasional snow showers. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. West wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

• Tonight: Snow showers likely, mainly before 8pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Saturday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 14. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. West wind 6 to 11 mph.

• Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 11. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

• Monday Night: Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. East wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

• Tuesday: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Southeast wind 9 to 14 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
