The National Weather Service has St. Lawrence County under a hazardous weather outlook this weekend.
“[A] storm system on Saturday into Sunday will bring mainly rain possibly mixed with a little light mixed precipitation Saturday mainly in the higher terrain. Behind the storm some strong gusty winds of 30-40 mph are possible on Sunday along with a chance of snow showers,” the NWS weather outlook says.
After a Friday night with increasing clouds and countywide temperatures in the low 20s, Saturday brings up to 60 percent chances of rain then snow with temperatures hitting highs in the low 40s. Accumulation of less than half an inch is possible.
Saturday night is forecast to bring up to 90 percent chances of rain in some areas, with an 80 percent chance of show in Massena. Temperatures are predicted in the mid 30s.
Sunday brings up to 90 percent chances of rain-snow mix and then snow with temperatures in the mid 30s. Sunday night brings 30 to 40 percent chances of more snow and temperatures dropping to around 20 degrees. NWS expects less than half an inch of snow.
Monday is forecast to be mostly sunny with temperatures around freezing.
The detailed forecast for Potsdam:
Friday night - Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. Light and variable wind.
Saturday - A slight chance of snow between 10am and 11am, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday night - Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 4am. Low around 35. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Sunday - Rain before 9am, then rain and snow showers likely between 9am and noon, then snow showers likely after noon. High near 37. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Sunday night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. West wind 10 to 15 mph.
Monday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 31. West wind around 11 mph.
Monday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
Tuesday - Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph.
Tuesday night - A chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow showers between midnight and 2am, then a chance of snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Wednesday - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind around 9 mph.
Wednesday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. West wind around 6 mph.
Thanksgiving Day - Partly sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 5 to 7 mph.
