Hazardous weather expected as snow, rain hit North Country

North Country residents can expect hazardous weather for the next few days as snow and rain move into the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snow will develop across the area this afternoon and taper off later tonight with only minor accumulations expected.

Most locations will see a dusting to 2 inches by tonight with 1 to 3 inches in the mountains.

Light rain may mix in with the snow across the larger valleys.

A favorable pattern for persistent mountain snow showers will develop on Wednesday and continue into Thursday. This will result in some light snow accumulations, especially Wednesday night into Thursday.

Today: A slight chance of rain and snow before 2pm, then rain. High near 41. East wind around 11 mph becoming south in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight: Rain and snow showers, becoming all snow after 8pm. Low around 20. Southwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Wednesday: Scattered snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 25. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Scattered snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -7. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Thursday: Scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 20. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 14. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Light east wind.

Saturday: Cloudy, with a high near 37. East wind 3 to 7 mph.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 30. East wind 3 to 5 mph.
