A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for northern St. Lawrence County due to the potential for heavy snowfall and mixed precipitation during the early portion of the week.

Some clouds and snow showers are possible in higher elevations Sunday, but a coastal system will bring an extended heavy snowfall Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. Significant snow accumulation is likely in the North Country.

A winter storm watch may be issued if weather patterns continue as expected, the service says. Power outages are also possible due to heavy snowfall, the weather service says

Rain and sleet may be mixed with heavy snow across the St. Lawrence Valley, the service continued. Travel conditions are likely to be difficult.
