Rain, snow and hazardous conditions expected in North Country

A hazardous weather outlook for St. Lawrence County is posted by the National Weather Service for Saturday through next Thursday due to an expected variety of forms of precipitation in above- and below-freezing temperatures.

The dry weather and sunshine in the North Country this morning is giving way to clouds that are the precursor to light mixed precipitation late tonight and especially tomorrow, according to NWS forecasters. They say light snow will change to all rain by later Saturday. Precipitation amounts are predicted to be very light, but untreated roads and sidewalks may briefly become slick, especially across northern New York, the NWS says.

A brief break takes place Saturday night before a stronger low pressure system moves in on Sunday bringing widespread rain but, more importantly, strong winds in the St. Lawrence Valley.

As we move into Sunday night, gusty winds in the St. Lawrence Valley are expected to run to 35 to 45 mph.

Temperatures tonight will bottom out at around 30 with the chance of precipitation at 60 percent and a chance of gusty winds. The chance of rain rises to 70 percent tomorrow with highs around 40.

Sunday rain and highs around 45 are expected, and Sunday night, rain is expected to change to snow as lows reach down to about 20.
