Harrisville Central names Parow, Jackson-Wood and Scarborough its class leaders for 2017

HARRISVILLE -- Harrisville Central has announced its class leaders for 2017. The Harrisville valedictorian is Roderick Parow, salutatorian is Elizabeth Jackson-Wood, and earning the top vocational award is Faith Scarborough.

Valedictorian

Roderick Parow, son of Shelly and Adam Carr, Harrisville, and Carl and Tara Parow, Poland, has earned the highest academic award of valedictorian for the class of 2017.

Parow plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall and major in game design and development (B.S.). His ideal career is writing story lines and dialogue for video game companies such as “Bungie” and “Activision.”

Parow’s seven semester academic average is 94.0, and he will earn advanced placement credits in United States History, English Literature & Composition, and Statistics. Roderick will also have dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College for English 12, Pre-Calculus, French III and French IV. At graduation in June, he will receive an Advanced Designation Regents Diploma.

Parow has been active in school groups and sports.

Roderick is a former member of the National Junior Honor Society and a current member of National Honor Society, where he served as president during his sophomore and senior years. He has served as class president all four years of high school.

As a sophomore, Roderick attended HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) at SUNY Oswego.

Parow spent two years in concert band in percussion, and four years on the soccer and basketball teams and three years playing baseball. Parow’s favorite high school activity is soccer. In addition to the school JV and Varsity soccer teams, Roderick has played each summer on various traveling soccer teams and plays on indoor leagues at the YMCA in Watertown during the winters.

Parow was named Section X Second Team All-Northern his junior year in varsity soccer.

Roderick has also spent the last two summers working as a farm hand on two small local farms.

During his remaining free time, he enjoys video games and reading.

Roderick’s honors include: Harrisville Central School Student of the Year 2016, NYS Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Award, Northern NY Community Foundation STEM Award, WWNY TV 7 Academic All-Star, Rochester Institute of Technology Science Medal and Computing Medal, Clarkson University Leadership Award, University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award and Section X Academic All-Northern Award.

Salutatorian

Elizabeth Jackson-Wood, daughter of Jessica and Justin Sullivan, Harrisville, and David and Amanda Jackson, Harrisville, has earned the second academic award of salutatorian for the class of 2017.

Jackson-Wood’s average is 91.675 for three and one half years of high school and she will receive an Advanced Designation Regents Diploma at graduation in June. Elizabeth will earn Advanced Placement credits in United States History, English Literature & Composition and Statistics.

She will also receive dual enrollment credits through North Country Community College in English 12, French III and French IV. Next fall, Elizabeth will attend Elmira College, majoring in Biology.

The 2017 salutatorian at Harrisville Central is Elizabeth Jackson-Wood.

Jackson-Wood is a former member of the National Junior Honor Society and a current member of National Honor Society, where she has served as vice-president during her senior year.

While in high school, Elizabeth participated in soccer in grades 9-12, basketball in grades 9-11 and softball in grades 9-12.

She has been a member of the Student Representatives Assembly for four years and a member of the Youth Advisory Council for the last three years. Jackson-Wood was a member of the High School Chorus for three years and the Concert Band for one year.

Elizabeth has worked at Viking Cives in Harrisville, NY for the last two summers and is planning on returning this summer.

Her honors include Elmira College Key Award, Clarkson University Achievement Award, and Section X Academic All-Northern.

Top Vocational Award

Faith Scarborough, daughter of Colleen Moynihan of Harrisville, and James Scarborough of Brownville, has earned the highest vocational award for a senior in a two-year program for the class of 2017.

Faith has an overall GPA of 89.75 and she will receive an Advanced Designation Regents Diploma at graduation in June. Scarborough will earn Advanced Placement credit in United States History and dual enrollment credit through North Country Community College for English.

A senior in the graphic communications program at Southwest Technical Center, Faith has interned at the Edwards Opera House. While interning, Faith created the logo for the Edwards Opera House, made posters to advertise incoming shows and updated the Edwards Opera House website.

Scarborough plans to attend Champlain College, in Burlington, Vt., where she will major in game art and animation. Faith wants to be an environmental artist; creating a world around the characters in video games.

Earning the top vocational award for 2017 at Harrisville is Faith Scarborough.

She enjoys working with horses and spent last summer working at Baker School of Riding in Phoenix, NY. She hopes to return this summer to work with the horses. Scarborough incorporated her love of horses into her Senior Art Portfolio this year, with horse anatomy being part of her project.

Also in her free time, Faith enjoys drawing and video games, especially her guilty pleasure, Sims 3 Pets.

Scarborough’s honors include membership in the National Honor Society, membership in the National Technical Honor Society, the New York State Attorney General “Triple C” Award, being named a 7 News Arts All-Star, and Top Achiever at SWT (Gr. 11 & 12).

Faith also received a 2017 Scholastic Regional Art Award and has had her artwork featured at Onondaga Community College.
