HANNAWA FALLS – With heating aid cuts making it tougher for some North Country families to stay warm this winter, Helping Hands of Potsdam is asking for donations of dry, cut, split and delivered firewood.
The wood will be distributed to families in need.
The federal Heating Energy Assistance Program has been cut this year and as a result many North Country families are struggling to keep warm.
Helping Hands is asking people who find themselves with a little extra wood this year due to the mild winter to consider donating some of the extra wood to Helping Hands.
In addition to collecting firewood, they are also asking for donations of quilts, blankets and sleeping bags, to help low income families keep warm.
Helping Hands is located at 5868 State Highway 56 in Hannawa Falls. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or by appointment.
Financial contributions can be mailed to Helping Hands, Box 92, Hannawa Falls, NY 13647.
Helping Hands is an ecumenical compassionate Christian human service organization dedicated to helping others in Potsdam and the surrounding communities.
