Hand-blown glass ornament raffle to boost Madrid-Waddington school music

WADDINGTON -- A local couple is promoting this year’s raffle of hand-blown glass ornaments that benefits the music program at Madrid-Waddington Central School.

This year Judy and Larry Jones got some help from professional glass blower Tim Tiernan of Glass Roots of Waddington, New York to provide 36 hand-blown heart-shaped ornaments of different colors to be raffled off in lots of six.

“These heart shaped bulbs would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s tree and an exceptional gift by themselves,” Judy and Larry said in a letter.

“With all the uncertainty in the local area with the potential loss of jobs at Alcoa and surrounding areas, we felt perhaps the ‘heart shaped glass ornament’ would give us all an inspiration for this holiday season.”

“With all the music cutbacks, we took this on as our cause, to perpetuate the music program” at the school, Judy told us.

Tickets are available at the school office and from school music students. They will also be sold at the four school music concerts coming up, the high school concert Dec. 9 at 7 p.m., the 7th and 8th grade concert Dec. 10 at 7 p.m., the 4th through 6th grade concert Dec. 15, and the K through 3rd grade concert Dec. 17.

The drawing for the ornament prizes will be at the Dec. 17 concert.
