OGDENSBURG -- City police say they collared a Hammond man hiding from police in a stranger’s apartment after the suspect allegedly stole a package from a nearby front porch.
Edward G. Gagnon III, 24, of 73 Turner Road is charged with petit larceny, police said.
He was charged after police investigated a complaint that a man on a bicycle wearing a green jacket had stolen a package from a porch at 1630 Jay Street.
Police later found the bicycle on Proctor Lane and Gagnon was arrested a short time later, found hiding in a nearby apartment between a bed and a wall. Police say they don’t believe Gagnon knows the resident of the apartment, who was not home at the time of the arrest, and further charges could be pending.
He was also had outstanding warrants for his arrest in both Ogdensburg City Court and St. Lawrence County Court.
He is being held in the city lockup pending arraignment, police said.
