HAMMOND – The kitchen in a Hammond house occupied by eight people was damaged by fire Tuesday.
Hammond volunteers got the call at 2:27 p.m. to 513 State Rt. 37 owned by George Mason. Hammond Rescue and departments from Brier Hill and Redwood also responded. Morristown firefighters were on standby.
Investigators said the fire started in the kitchen, but was not related to cooking.
The damage to the kitchen was described as moderate. There was also smoke damage in the house.
Occupant Viola Helm and seven other occupants were not reported to be injured.
The Hammond Volunteer Fire Department was back in service at 5:27 p.m.
