POTSDAM -- As part of this week's Potsdam Summer Festival celebration, Fort De La Presentation of Ogdensburg will conduct a living history encampment across from the village offices in front of Clarkson University’s downtown Snell Hall from Thursday, July 8, through Saturday, July 10.
The event will include a ceremonial gun firing for a flag ceremony in remembrance of fallen soldiers at noon on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and a tactical weapons demonstration at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Clarkson advises community members not to be alarmed if you hear the gunfire at these times, as they will actually be firing blanks and not live ammunition.
The “living history” demonstrations will include meal preparation, blacksmithing, tinsmithing, a demonstration of "Life on Campaign," and presentations on the "St. Lawrence Valley 1750-1765."
The encampment coincides with New York State's commemorative 250th anniversary of the battle of Fort De Levis, to be reenacted at Fort De La Presentation July 16-18.
