MASSENA -- Firefighters were extinguishing a grass fire on the north side of the bridge spanning the Raquette River on East Orvis Street around 12:15 p.m. this afternoon.
No property was damaged, but the flames were 20 to 30 yards from Pinto, Muscenski, Hooper, Van House and Co. CPAs. It was not damaged.
The southbound lane crossing the bridge was closed, but has since reopened.
Massena fire chief Ted Krywanczyk said the fire was caused by a power line that snapped and ignited grass on the hill on the northeast side of the bridge.
The chief said he doesn't know why the line failed.
