NORWOOD -- A grand opening for the now restored, over 100-year old fountain will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. until noon on Prospect Street.

“Save The Fountain is pleased to have accomplished what the community wanted in slightly over a year and invites the community to come and enjoy it during this time,” states committee co-chair, Teresa Sharlow Clemmo.

Save The Fountain was established in 2016 to restore a historic, over 100-year old fountain in Norwood, that is situated in front of the old Norwood Union School, built in 1885.

“When Save The Fountain was established in late May, 2016, the Norwood community members’ response to restore the fountain was overwhelming,”Sharlow Clemmo said.

Save The Fountain was established in May 2016 with the sole purpose of raising funds to restore Norwood’s historic cobblestone fountain that was built prior to 1912. Their mission has been “Preserving Norwood’s History for Future Generations”. The committee members are Terri Sharlow Clemmo, Sue LaFay Maroney, Yvonne Jeanson and Erin McFaddin LaBarge.

“People who currently live here, or grew up here, have generously donated their time, talent and funds; it’s truly been a community project. Our committee has had the honor to meet and talk with so many people who have shared their fond memories of this cobblestone fountain and their commitment to its restoration. We’ve spent many hours fundraising to complete the project and our reward is that the community is happy with the result and now we can have a day to share it with them,” says Clemmo.
