CANTON -- The Maplewood Campus has developed ‘Grand Friends Day’ to encourage increased intergenerational awareness.

“Grand Friends Day is more than our version of Grandparent’s Day,” explained Dawn Kimble, Activities Leader for Maplewood Campus. “Good things happen when children and older adults get together.”

“Here at Maplewood, children get together regularly with the seniors to share snacks, crafts, story telling, and a host of other activities,” said Nancy Addison, Director of Canton Child Day Care Center. “The magic in what occurs isn’t necessarily in the structured activity that is taking place, rather the relationships that are formed between the child and the older person.”

Maplewood Campus provides a home for both the Canton Child Day Care Center and assisted living, subacute rehabilitation and skilled nursing services for older adults.

The kids and seniors celebrated Grand Friends Day with snacks and homemade cards that the children presented their older friends.
