GOUVERNEUR — Two Gouverneur youths were arrested on burglary, arson, criminal mischief and animal cruelty charges stemming from a burglary investigation by state police.

The suspect entered 166 Smith Rd. and caused damage inside, officers said. The property includes a vacant farmhouse and a cattle barn used to house young livestock.

Police said a young bull calf suffered severe head injuries and had to be euthanized. Damage was done to an antique John Deere 50 tractor, a Case 1840 skid steer, light fixtures, and windows, troopers said.

Several bales of hay were tipped over and one bale was smoldering because it had been set on fire, officers said.

The complaint was first reported to state police Sept. 15.

Nicholas R. Tracey, 18, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief: Intentionally damage property, all felonies, officers said.

He was also charged with torture/injure/not feeding an animal, criminal mischief, and fifth-degree arson, police said.

Tracey was held on $10,000 cash bail.

An 11-year old was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief: Intentionally damage property, all felonies, torture/injure/not feeding an animal, criminal mischief, petit larceny and fifth-degree arson, police said.
