Gouverneur woman to run for New York State Supreme Court

GOUVERNEUR – A Gouverneur woman says she is a candidate for New York State Supreme Court Justice following the announced retirement Potsdam resident and justice David Demarest.

Attorney Mary M. Farley announced her plans to run on Wednesday.

With Demarest announcing his retirement planned for this summer and Justice David B. Krogmann of Warren County reaching mandatory retirement age, two vacancies are expected on the ballot for Supreme Court Justice within the Fourth Judicial District in November, according to Farley.

“The residents of St. Lawrence County and the North Country will continue to be well-served by an elected, St. Lawrence County resident New York Supreme Court Justice who is familiar with the North Country’s unique geography as well as the needs of its citizen,” she said.

She graduated from Albany Law School of Union in 1992, practiced law privately in Albany at Roemer & Featherstonhaugh, P.C.

“Having been mentored by Judge Demarest for more than two decades as his law clerk, I feel confident I possess the temperament, knowledge and experience to serve the needs of the residents of the Fourth Judicial District,” Farley said.
