GOUVERNEUR -- Rebecca Branchau of Gouverneur didn’t win the regional Texaco Country Showdown talent contest in Massachusetts Saturday, but she’s not discouraged.
“I had a really good time and met some really good people,” she said, explaining that some of those people could be the key to her future in song.
“You never know what doors will open because of that,” she said, back from the contest in Greenfield, Mass.
She said the backup band told her that they, too, lost one year, but got a call the following year to be the backup band for all the regional contests in the Showdwown schedule.
And aside from that, the audience was great. “When I hit the last note, everybody went nuts. That was very encouraging.”
And even if she didn’t win a chance to go on in this year’s contest, her local band mates are pleased enough with her contribution to change the name of the group.
“The band was named Shagnasty for like 30 years, but they recently renamed it Beck N Boyz,” she said.
