GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur woman was jailed after she allegedly spit in the face of a Social Services caseworker during a child abuse investigation, accordion to Gouverneur police.
Jennifer L. Nowak, 34, was arrested April 12 at 6:41 p.m. on East Main St. and charged with second-degree attempted assault, second-degree harassment and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, officers said.
Police were at the residence assisting SLC Child Protective Services with the investigation of alleged neglect and abuse of her three children when Nowak lunged at the caseworker and spit in her face and eye knowing she was diagnosed with a contagious infection.
Nowak was immediately taken into custody, police said.
She was arraigned at Gouverneur court before Justice Travis Dann and ordered held at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
