GOUVERNEUR – Two Gouverneur residents were charged after making false reports to St. Lawrence County 911 dispatch that smoke was filling two separate residences in the village, according to Gouverneur police.
Lee M. Otto, 21, Gouverneur, and Cheleste M. Sawyer, 22, Gouverneur were charged Friday, June 10, at 10:16 p.m. on West Main Street with second-degree falsely reporting an incident and fifth-degree conspiracy, officers said.
Otto was additionally charged with criminal facilitation, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment.
The arrests were the result of an investigation of two prank phone calls to St. Lawrence County 911 dispatch.
The first false report alleged there was smoke filling a residence at 120 Grove St. followed by a second false report of smoke filling a residence at 102 Battlehill Road.
Both defendants were arraigned at the Gouverneur Town Court before Justice Stan Young and released to a third party.
