GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur man was jailed and released Monday for aggravated driving while intoxicated after fleeing police following a traffic stop on State Route 58, according to state police.
Gouverneur-based troopers said they charged Jesse R. Gates, 36, with aggravated DWI, resisting arrest and speeding.
Police said they conducted a traffic stop on a 1997 Ford Ranger and found that the driver, Gates, was intoxicated.
Gates reportedly fled on foot and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
His blood alcohol content was determined to be .31 percent, which raises his DWI charge to a felony, officers said.
He was arraigned at the Gouverneur Town Court where he posted $500 cash bail, troopers said.
