Gouverneur man jailed on more than a dozen counts for three-week string of burglaries, thefts

GOUVERNEUR -- A village resident suspected in numerous recent larcenies and burglaries has been jailed.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., police charged Thomas M. Barbarito, 36, of 42 Park St. Apt. 2 with more than a dozen felonies and misdemeanors for alleged crimes committed between Nov. 14 and Dec. 8, Chief Laurina Greenhill said.

He was arraigned by Fowler Town Justice James Phillips and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.

Police say Barbarito is a suspect in the following incidents:

• Nov. 14 at Cive Steel, 40 Factory St., charged with felony counts of third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny. He allegedly broke into the business, damaged two vending machines and stole about $185.

• Nov. 14, Nina’s Hotel, 34 Depot St., charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, felony, and petit larceny. He allegedly broke into the business, damaged two coin-operated dart machines and a juke box and stole $163.

• Nov. 16, American Legion Post 65, 163 East Main St., charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor. He allegedly broke into the business, damaged two coin-operated dart machines and stole about $400.

• Nov. 19, Trackside Plaza Laundromat, Factory Street, charged with third-degree grand larceny, felony. He allegedly removing a coin machine from the wall and stealing the money within for a total value of around $3,000.

• Nov. 21, Cargill Feed Mill, Starbuck Street, charged with third-degree burglary and petit larceny. He allegedly broke in and stole a Dewalt drill, an impact gun, two flashlights and a digital scale.

• Dec. 8, Trackside Plaza Laundromat, charged with criminal mischief and petit larceny. He allegedly damage a money exchange machine and stole from it about $400.

• Dec. 8, residence on Willow Street, charged with petit larceny. Allegedly stole an HP desktop computer while visiting the home.
