GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur man was jailed Wednesday after allegedly breaking into a victim's home, destroying property, stealing cash and later harassing her at Stewarts Shop, 242 East Main St.
Police said that around 11:55 p.m. on March 3 that Tyler S. Bates confronted the 33-year-old female victim in the parking lot of Stewarts when she was going to her vehicle.
Bates allegedly began yelling at the victim and when she attempted to leave, Bates pulled his snowmobile behind her vehicle not allowing her to leave the parking lot. He reportedly left the scene on the snowmobile a short time later.
The victim later discovered that Bates went into her residence on County Route 12 and destroyed property inside her house including her front door, a 32-inch flat screen television worth approximately $300, an Eden Pure infrared space heater worth approximately $200, a Keurig coffee maker worth approximately $100, a stainless steel microwave worth approximately $100, and a wood stove worth approximately $400, troopers said.
He also allegedly stole $104 cash.
Bates was located at 156 Little Bow Road in Gouverneur and charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree intimidation: instill fear/injury, officers said.
He was arraigned in the Fowler court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail $10,000 bond.
An order of protection was issued mandating that Bates have no contact with the victim, police said.
