EDWARDS -- A Gouverneur man was jailed on felony driving while intoxicated charges after fleeing state police Tuesday night near the intersection of Gaddis Road and State Route 58.
Troopers said they initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Saturn Vue after it suddenly stopped in the middle of the road.
The driver failed to comply and drove away, pulling into the driveway of 155 Gaddis Road before stopping, officers said.
The driver, Jesse J. Johnson, 34, was found in possession of a small quantity of marijuana, police said.
Johnson allegedly refused to provide a breath sample to determine his blood alcohol content.
He was charged with aggravated DWI, felony, after it was determined he had previous DWI convictions within the last ten years.
Johnson was also charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlawful possession of marijuana, failure to obey a police officer, illegal signal, parking on pavement, and failure to notify DMV of change of address.
Johnson was arraigned in Fowler court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail, or $5,000 bond.
He is to appear in Fowler court Jan. 4 at 6 p.m.
