Gouverneur Hospital to receive $50,000 toward emergency room and other expenses

GOUVERNEUR -- Gouverneur Hospital is getting $50,000 toward its emergency room and other expenses.

The cash is coming from the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Of that, $25,000 will assist with the hospital’s current emergency department campaign. This grant was supported, in part, by the A. Eleanor Jackson Fund at the Community Foundation. This legacy fund is stewarded through the foundation to support programs, projects and initiatives impacting the quality of life for residents in the Gouverneur area.

The foundation’s board also agreed to a $25,000 matching grant to establish and build an endowment fund. The fund allows the agency to diversify its charitable giving options for donors and supports the organization’s purpose and mission in perpetuity, according to NNYCF.

The capital campaign to renovate the emergency department will redesign the space to improve efficiency and coordination of care at the hospital. Approximately 10,000 visits are recorded at the hospital each year.

“We are grateful for generous support from the Northern New York Community Foundation. As we work to elevate the quality of healthcare in Gouverneur, the Foundation has demonstrated its shared commitment through their multi-dimensional support,” David Bender, Gouverneur Hospital CEO, said in a statement from NNYCF.

“Because of the generosity of donors, past and present, we are positioned to respond to important community needs as they arise. It was important to us to be part of improving critical access to health care for the residents of Gouverneur and surrounding areas. With this grant, we are investing now and also providing a structure for support for the long term, to help ensure that the services and donor interests are perpetuated,” Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director, said in a prepared statement.
