GOUVERNEUR -- Applications for the Gouverneur Hospital Auxiliary scholarship are now available.

The scholarships recognize and honor the service and dedication of four deceased auxiliary members.

These awards, Peg Hanlon Scholarship, Betsy Deuval Scholarship, Della Evans Scholarship and the Janet Storch Scholarship, are awarded to students pursing a medical or health-related career.

The scholarships are funded by the auxiliary each year. They are awarded based on the qualifications of the candidates and the availability of funds.

To be eligible, an individual must be a high school graduate and reside in the Gouverneur Hospital service area. This area includes the town of Fowler, Antwerp, Edwards, DeKalb, Depeyster, Harrisville, Hermon, Macomb, Richville and Rossie.

Anyone enrolled in a career training program must apply on an annual basis. A committee or auxiliary personnel select the award recipients. Criteria for selection include career interest, financial need and academic achievement. Awards will only be presented to students who have successfully completed a minimum of one semester of the college training program.

Completed applications are due by August 10, 2017.

The names of the 2017 recipients will be announced in the fall.
