GOUVERNEUR -- Dr. Steven A. Leveston, hospitalist, has joined the medical staff of Gouverneur Hospital.
As a specialist in hospital medicine, Leveston diagnoses and treats a wide variety of diseases and conditions for which hospitalization may be necessary, including sudden worsening of the symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or heart failure, recovery from abdominal or orthopedic surgery, recovery from wounds, and life-threatening infectious diseases. He has experience and training in endocrine disorders, in particular complications of diabetes, and thyroid disorders.
Leveston received his degree from Albany Medical College and also studied at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Ky.
He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany.
He completed a fellowship in metabolism at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. He has served patients of urban and rural hospitals, including Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh and in specialty institutions such as Cancer Centers of America, Albany Veterans’ Administration Hospital, and the Child’s Hospital in Albany.
He is the author or co-author of publications in the medical literature and has been principal investigator of clinical trials. Leveston is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine.
The Gouverneur Hospital hospitalist program is managed by Delphi Healthcare, a physician-owned which provides emergency medicine and hospitalist physicians’ services throughout western and central New York.
