GOUVERNEUR -- The village is getting a financing package totaling $2,227,000 for upgrades to its water treatment facilities.

According to the announcement from the governor’s office, $1,336,200 of the money is to be in grant form, while the remaining $890,800 will be in the form of a low-interest or no-interest loan.

The treatment facility upgrades in Gouverneur, at the plant on the Oswegatchie River south of village’s downtown, will include upgrades to filters, controls, backwash system, pumps, and chemical feed systems at the existing surface water treatment plant – described as “aged” in the press release -- to maintain compliance with drinking water standards.

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, which administers financing for such projects in the state, generally provides a grant and loan package that allows for a more fiscally sustainable investment for these communities, according to the news release.
