GOUVERNEUR – Gouverneur firefighters contained house fire to a bedroom early this morning.
They responded to an alarm at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, and found an active fire at 152 W. Main St., a two-story wood-frame structure.
“Gouverneur Fire Chief Conklin reported on scene with smoke showing from the second floor and confirmed a working fire,” a post on the department’s Facebook page said.
The crew of Engine 17 brought a hose to the second floor where they found heavy smoke and high heat, the post said.
“The fire was found and quickly contained to a bedroom. Crews also searched the building confirming all occupants were out of the building,” the report said.
Gouverneur volunteers responded with Engine 17, Engine 18, ETA-101, TA-6, Rescue 4 and 28 firefighters.
They were assisted on scene by Gouverneur Police, N.Y. State police, Gouverneur Rescue Squad and Richville Fire Department.
The St. Lawrence county Fire Investigation Team has been assigned to investigate the cause of the fire.
