GOUVERNEUR – The 166th annual Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair is now underway, with a variety of activities scheduled every day until Aug. 6.
This year’s highlights include a concert by country music star Josh Turner tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 8 p.m. with $35 ticket; a high school band parade Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 1 p.m.; harness racing Thursday, Aug. 3, starting at noon; and a concert by The Trews Thursday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. with a $15 ticket. Canton’s own Waydown Wailers will open for The Trews at 7 p.m.
Other events planned include a talent show Friday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. with a $5 ticket; a fireman’s parade Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.; and demolition derby Sunday, Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. with a $15 ticket.
Also there will be a Professional Tough Trucks Show Saturday, Aug. 5, at 2 and 7 p.m. for a $15 ticket.
A petting zoo will be set up all week at the fair and there will be free ground acts for attendees.
Fair-goers can enter a bicycle drawing Wednesday-Saturday.
Carnival rides by Coleman Brothers Carnivals will be available everyday from 1-11 p.m. with special ride prices available with a wrist band purchase.

In addition, a variety of 4-H youth activities and demonstrations are scheduled. The following are scheduled:

6:30-7:30 p.m., 4-H fashion show and mannequin modeling
Wednesday, Aug. 2
9 a.m.-8 p.m., 4-H youth building open
9 a.m., 4-H and open beef show (show ring)
9 a.m., 4-H Gymkhana horse show (Horse show ring)
10 a.m., 4-H Dairy showmanship (show ring)
10 a.m.-1 p.m., wool spinning demonstration
1-3 p.m., Soil and Water Conservation information booth
3-5 p.m., WIC information booth
1 p.m., 4-H & FFA dairy judging (show ring)
1:30 p.m., 4-H sheep & open sheep show (sheep barn)
2:30 p.m., 4-H dog show (dairy show ring)
Thursday, Aug. 3
9 a.m.-8 p.m., 4-H youth building open
9 a.m., 4-H holstein, guernsey and milking shorthorn show
10 a.m.-noon, felting demonstration
Noon-2 p.m., Soil and Water Conservation information booth
3-5 p.m., felting demonstration

9 a.m., 4-H Ayrshire, brown swiss and Jersey cattle show
