GOUVERNEUR – Firefighters say an electrical issue may have caused an early morning blaze that dealt heavy damage to a Cambray garage and home Sunday.
The 44 Cambray St. property was owned by Glenn R. and Christina Latta and was insured. Three others also lived in the house.
Latta reportedly spotted the garage fire after she smelled smoke.
Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 3:58 a.m. and returned to service at 6:23 a.m.
The garage was heavily damaged. Fire damage was primarily limited to one bedroom in the home, but smoke damaged the remainder of the building.
Firefighters said an electrical fire in the garage was one a possible cause of the blaze.
Gouverneur Rescue also responded to the scene.
Richville and Oxbo firefighters provided mutual aid.
The incident was investigated by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team.
