A new record low was set in Gouverneur and Star Lake last night as temperatures dropped to -21, according to The Weather Underground.
The cold temps last night broke the previous record of -11 which was recorded in 2004 at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for the southern portion of the county.
While extremely cold in northern parts of the county, the record low at the Massena International Airport of -30 set in 1968 remains intact.
Overnight temperatures dipped to -15 in the Potsdam, Massena, Ogdensburg and Canton areas, Weather Underground says.
The temperatures are expected to rise today to around 18 but wind chill values could be around -30 in parts of St. Lawrence County, according to The National Weather Service (NWS).
Wind gusts could reach as high as 38 mph with snow showers possible after 10 a.m., the service says.
Total snow accumulation will likely be around 1 to 2 inches.
Lows overnight are expected to be around 16 with wind chill values as low as -1, according to the service.
