GOUVERNEUR – A family of three has lost the house they lived in, the garage, their car, and the family dog in a fire today.
The fire to the residence of the Greg Washburn family of 1545 Lead Mine Road northwest of Gouverneur is still under investigation, according to county fire investigators.
Gouverneur volunteer firefighters were called out at 7:26 this morning, followed shortly thereafter by Oxbow, Heuvelton and Morristown companies at the scene. Standing by were the Lisbon, Richville and Hammond departments. Gouverneur was back in service at 11:27 a.m.
No one was reported hurt, but the family dog was lost, along with their Ford Focus. The house and garage were a total loss.
The family reportedly has insurance on the property.
