Watertown businessman and Republican congressional candidate Matt Doheny has gotten the OK for his election race from the Jefferson and Saratoga county Republican committees and from the Franklin County Conservative Party Committee.
“Matt Doheny is the best person to represent Jefferson County in Congress – and not just because he is a native son,” said Jefferson GOP Chairman Don Coon. “He is only candidate that offers serious solutions to the issues we face with unemployment, taxes and regulations. I am certain that Matt Doheny will be an outstanding advocate for us when he gets to Washington.”
Bob White, Franklin County Conservative Party chairman, said his committee unanimously endorsed Doheny because they knew he would be “an effective advocate for Conservative causes.”
Doheny is looking for a rematch against Plattsburgh Democrat Rep. Bill Owens, who won a three-way race against Doheny and Lake Placid Conservative and tea party favorite Doug Hoffman in 2010 for the 23rd District seat.
The district is undergoing the same redistricting process that other House seats and state Legislature districts are undergoing. The 23rd now extends from Lake Ontario in the west to Lake Champlain in the east.
“I promised to unite the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties to give North Country voters a real opportunity to help return fiscal sanity to Washington,” said Doheny. “I believe my pro-growth message is really resonating with these committee members. I appreciate their faith in me as we work together toward victory in November.”
