Gingerbread contest winners named in Canton; art to remain on display through Dec. 21

First place winner in the Children’s category went to “See The World with Mary Poppins,” by 11-year-olds Sarah Bailey, Lindsey Frazer, and Gretchen Warner.

CANTON – TAUNY’s annual Sugar and Spice Gingerbread Exhibit is on display and winners have been named.

Entries were judged in four categories: Adult, Youth, Children, and Family/Youth Group. Pictured is the first place winner in the children’s category went to “See The World with Mary Poppins,” by 11-year-olds Sarah Bailey, Lindsey Frazer, and Gretchen Warner.

Other winners are:

• Adult – first place “The Set of Don Quixote” by Alie Sarhanis, Benjamin Swimm, Josh Carter, Louise Gava, and Mimi Rooney; second place “Hansel and Gretel” by Nancy Putney; third place “We Are Merely the Players” by Jennifer Berbrich.

•Youth – first place “The Ghosts Visit Scrooge” by Celeste Fullerton and Isabelle Wick. Children –second place “Christmas in Munchkinland” by Dharma Crabtree and Xiomara Oey-Langen; third place “A Play in Progress” by Clare and Megan Sullivan-Catlin, Maddie Wheeler, and Celeste Zwingel.

• Family/Youth Group – first place “Boy for Sale” by Anna and Brennan Fullerton; second place The Nutcracker by The Pierce Family, Carolyn, Reilly, Carter, Maureen, Meaghan, and Michael.

This year’s exhibit was curated by Canton High School students Hailey Leonard, Alex Dombrose, Reed McLaughlin, under the direction of art teacher Michelle Rodee.

The Sugar & Spice exhibit is made possible by generous underwriting support from Stewart’s Shops. The exhibit will remain on display at The TAUNY Center through Saturday, Dec. 21.

The TAUNY Center, 53 Main Street in Canton, is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during December. The Center will close at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve. For more information visit www.TAUNY.org.
