POTSDAM -- The friends and patients of Obstetrician José L. Lizardi have created a gift program in honor of Lizardi’s wife, Gina, who passed away in 2012 from complications due to diabetes.

The “Gina’s Gift Memorial Fund” is collecting donations to provide each of the nearly 400 babies delivered at Canton-Potsdam Hospital each year with a copy of “Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You,” by Nancy Tillman.

“Gina was a wife, mother, and nurse; she had extraordinary compassion for animals and children,” said project organizer Lindsay LaSala. “By giving copies of this lovely book to every newborn, Gina’s love, passion, and kindness will live on.”

The St. Lawrence University Bookstore has agreed to provide books for the program at a discount.

To donate, checks should be made payable to “Gina’s Gift” and mailed to PO Box 464, Potsdam, NY 13676.
